House (casa)of the Colonels


The most famous building in La Oiva is the House (Casa) of The Colonels an 18th century palace/fortress which has 365 windows one for each day of the year, It was once the offical headquarters of fuerteventura's military administration before it was relinquished to Puerto del Rosario.



It also has eight baroque style balconies and over the main entrance there is a coat of arms of the family Cabera the fifth colonel who ordered its construction, It is a two story building topped by three towers and is built on a square base around a central patio with pillars, It has under gone major repair work to restore it to its former glory and magnificence and it has not been lived in since the 19th century.
